Slightly Conscious Monkey’s is a queer Berlin based, not-for-profit collective that organizes solidarity events. Our events showcase queer talent and are meant to be a space where we can come together in our unique weirdness, to connect, dance, release energy and emotions, and find a sense of community to help bolster us through the capitalist hellscape we all live under.
We have titled our next event, “Asymmetry,” to raise funds in solidarity with Palestine. What is happening exposes the deep asymmetry, not only between Israel and Palestine, but also with the common human wish for freedom, autonomy, and self-determination compared with the malicious greed and intent of businesses, politicians, and governments who profit off of war, exploitation, and genocide. We mourn for those who have lost their homes, families, lives, and dreams. We call for an immediate ceasefire, and to end the occupation of Palestine.
We believe standing with Palestinians around the world is an inherently queer issue. Oppression of all marginalized communities is rooted in the same violent structures- colonialism, imperialism, and capitalism. Zionism is a nationalist ideology influenced by 20th century colonial ideas about European’s rights to claim and settle other parts of the world. It is not Judaism. We do not view what is happening as a religious conflict or a form of defense, but the result of 75 years of a settler colonial project. Jewish safety and Palestinian freedom are not opposing causes. We reject all forms of violence based upon anyone’s group membership. Queer liberation is connected to Palestinian liberation. None of us are free until all of us are free.
We come together for this event with the hope that in this time of anger, injustice, grief, and the loss of loved ones we can find community and raise funds to support our Palestinian siblings, with a hope for a better, freer, world.
No racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, anti-semitism, islamophobia, etc. will be tolerated.
